Top 10 Mistakes to Avoid When Moving House

Moving to your new home can be what you’ve thought and dreamed about for years. You may be moving to an avenue you’ve always wanted to live in, or perhaps a house with a garden big enough for your ambitions. It’s one of life’s special events.

Needless to say, however, moving house is one of the most stressful things you can do. If everything goes right, you’ll be exhausted but happy. If something goes wrong, on the other hand, it can get your adventure at the new house off to the wrong start. Our job is to make things perfect for you.

At Grants Removals we have many years of experience at making the process as painless and enjoyable as possible. Over time we’ve helped hundreds of families with their moves and noticed a lot of the mistakes they tend to make. We don’t want you to make the same mistakes, so here is the first of our ten very important pointers on what we hope you won’t be doing on the big day!

Mistake 10 – You Take Unnecessary Items With You

Planning, planning, planning…

In many ways, your house move is an opportunity for you to make a fresh start. One way of making a fresh start is to sort through all the items you have stored away, that you’re unlikely to use again.

If you have things in the attic that haven’t been used for a long time, perhaps you could consider saying goodbye to them.

One of the best things about moving house is that you are allowed to be ruthless with yourself and make decisions on what you’re really going to need in your new home. Nostalgia can be a good thing, but not if it means simply filling up your house with old items you will never use, but can’t bear to throw away.

Our advice is to have a clear out before the moving day. You could probably make some money by selling unwanted items online, and charity shops would be delighted to have your old books and CDs.

Be honest with yourself. Once you start, you’ll be amazed at how ruthless you can be with old, unneeded things. An additional benefit of your pre-move clearance is that your bill from Grants Removals will be that much smaller.

Del Says…

“Anything you tell us to move, we’ll move! But we can often tell when something that hasn’t been used is being moved to the new home, where it’s going to continue to not be used. It’s always a shame. Moving house will give you a new beginning, so why not get rid of the things you’ll never use?”
